“I began seeing Ann after I had knee surgery that was not healing well.  I initially had ACL reconstruction and a complex meniscus repair.  Due to extensive arthrofibrosis, I had to have a second knee surgery 8 weeks later to clear out scar tissue.  Following my second surgery, it seemed like my recovery was moving backwards.  I had very bad swelling, inflammation and stiffness that was only getting worse.  Someone recommended Counterstrain as an adjunct to my traditional PT routine.

After seeing Ann, I finally felt like I was making some progress.  Because I am not local to her office, I wasn't able to go as frequently as I would have liked.  However, after each visit, I would notice improvement that I just wasn't seeing doing my normal PT activities. I had noticeable improvements in the swelling, warmth and stiffness.  I also found that Ann's background in physical therapy was very helpful.

Although the focus was counterstrain, she gave me valuable feedback on ensuring I was doing my exercises correctly and not progressing to try to do things I wasn't ready for.  I would recommend counterstrain for anyone recovering from an injury even if you don't have setbacks.  I only wish I had gone earlier!”

“Ann works using a technique called Fascial Counterstrain. (counterstrain.com) This is quite different that the type of physical therapy I had experienced in the past. But one difference was quite clear, it lessened and/or eliminated my pain and also gave me greater range of motion.

As we were working together, I was getting pain in my right heel which I suspected was planter fasciitis. Ann felt that my symptoms were not classic for that condition. She went on to treat it and I am pleased to say I have no more pain in that heel.

In our visits, we talked about the arthritis in my left thumb, and while she was clear that she could not eliminate the arthritis, she thought she might be able to reduce the level of pain I was experiencing. She did. It is such a relief.

The results that we are achieving are impressive. I did not have any knowledge or Fascial Counter Strain before this, but now I’m a proponent. Ann is a thoughtful, concerned professional. Her manner with her patients is confident and reassuring.”

“Ann introduced me to the healing world of Counterstrain, and I've never looked back. Her approach and technique to help heal pain comes from a place of kindness, compassion, and understanding. I'm forever grateful to have found Ann and been introduced to the gentle, effective physical therapy that is Fascial Counterstrain. She took the time to educate me throughout working with the different techniques, and since moving away from the Bay, I continue to seek out practitioners who not only practice Counterstrain, but do so from a similar place that Ann practiced from.”

“Ann is a wonderful physical therapist who I cannot recommend enough for anyone who suffers from chronic pain like me. She was so helpful that I referred her to my mother, and my mother literally will drive over two hours just to see her for an appointment. I have gone through many physical therapists previously, and Ann was the only one who could identify and treat my ailments effectively. She utilizes a technique called counterstrain and takes a holistic approach to the body. I highly recommend Ann for anyone who suffers from chronic pain or injury. You'll be sure to notice the difference in your mobility and overall health with her magical touch!”

“I am grateful for my time with Ann. These past few months have been very effective against stubborn trauma headaches that were resistant to remedies I have tried in the past. Because of her caring nature and vast knowledge, I have been able to get back into the activities I love.”

“I was dealing with a right shoulder impingement where I couldn't lift objects above my head, which was quite concerning for an (otherwise) healthy male at 37 years old! Ann took a holistic approach to diagnose and treat my shoulder impingement. Ann is an excellent listener and treats patients with the latest knowledge in her practice (in this case Counterstrain). I was also impressed with the high degree of patience from Ann since my shoulder impingement was NOT an easy nor short remedy (she also discovered my prior appendicitis may have played a role too). I highly recommend Ann for any patients that would benefit from Counterstrain Therapy.”

“I’m pleased to comment on my physical therapist, Ann Bulkin at Balance in Motion Physical Therapy. I have been a client since January of 2023. I live in Placer County and drive 3 hours for my sessions with Ann. It’s been a Godsend as she is a miracle worker. I was referred to her by my daughter who is also her patient.

Ann has magical hands and is very knowledgeable in her field. Her skills are miraculous. She has been both remarkable and instrumental in my personal recovery since an old automobile accident, a recent fall, and a sciatic nerve issue. She is easy to talk to and to address with all of my concerns regarding my injuries.

Moreover, I’ve been seeing numerous physical therapists that did not meet my needs with sartisfactory results.

Ann, thank you for your warmth, kindness and healing practice serving the needs of pain sufferers. I will continue to enjoy our sessions together.”
