About Ann

Ann graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a degree in South Asian languages in 1993. She went on to earn her Master’s degreee in physical therapy at Samuel Merritt College in Oakland in 1996. After obtaining her degree she took a broad variety of continuing education courses every year. Her initial strongest interest was in the Osteopathic approaches to manual therapy that had relieved her chronic back and neck pain. She also pursued the work of Shirley Sahrmann, targeting specific muscle recruitment, as well as many other classes- both movement analysis and manual therapy based. Her first class in Counterstrain was in 2004, an original Jones class covering treatment to the extremities. In the spring of 2014 she took her first class in Fascial Counterstrain, one related to the visceral system. While she had achieved success using her prior training she immediately recognized this technique as something on a completely other level. Since that class she has dedicated herself to a continuous path of improvement as a Counterstrainer. She takes classes both through the Jones Institute and the Counterstrain Academy and is dedicated to regular review and study.

Ann was introduced to meditation as a teenager and this continues to be a vital part of her life. She and her husband, Shanta, teach the Sanskrit language as a tool for meditation. Ann also enjoys reading escapist fiction, swimming, spending time with her grandchildren and getting outdoors- anywhere with trees or bodies of water.
